Best Practices for Posting, Sharing and Interlinking a Related Topic on Your Blog, Social Media and Reels

Let’s talk about the best practice of how to make one news story or themed post go the distance on social media, your website/blog and even on video. Since AI has changed the web so drastically I thought it would be a smart move to ASK this question:

What IS the best practice for interlinking blog posts with social media posts and reels?

This is the answer I received:

Choose One Piece to Use as the “Anchor” or Home Base for the Topic

The main thing is **not to make every piece point to every other piece**. You want one piece to be the “home base,” with the others acting as different entry points.

How to Structure Your Interrelated, Interlinked Content

  1. Publish the blog post first. This is your primary piece of content and the URL you ultimately want people reaching.
  2. Publish the social post with the photos + short copy.
  3. Have the social post introduce the topic and give people a reason to click through to the blog.
  4. Link to the blog post from the social post** if that platform allows it naturally.
  5. Publish the Reel. The Reel can cover the same subject, but it doesn’t need to duplicate the blog. Give it its own angle — something visual, interesting, or quick.
  6. Put the blog link in the Reel’s caption/bio/link mechanism if the platform supports it. (If links in captions aren’t clickable/useful on that platform, then a comment is fine.)
  7. Don’t then link the social photo post back to the Reel AND the blog AND everything else.

That’s where it starts becoming a little content spiderweb. Think of it this way.

BLOG POST = hub

↙︎                          ↓                       ↘︎

Social post    Reel       Other social post

And each social piece can point back to the blog when appropriate.

You don’t necessarily need “Social post → Reel → Blog → Social post → Reel”

That’s a lot of cross-linking for essentially the same story.

One Important Exception

If the Reel and photo post are meaningfully different pieces, it’s perfectly fine to connect them. The blog is the deeper resource, while the Reel and photo post each have their own purpose.

In that situation, I’d do:

  • Reel → Blog
  • Photo post → Blog
  • Blog → relevant page/product/service

And only occasionally:

Reel → Photo post or Photo post → Reel when there’s an actual reason for someone to see the other piece.

And I wouldn’t worry about publishing them all on the same day.

I’d actually spread them out. The blog can go first, then the social post, then the Reel later. That lets you get multiple exposures from the same underlying work without making your audience feel like they’re seeing the exact same thing three times.

A Basic Interlinking Strategy to follow

Here’s what your general strategy for linking related pieces of content together, could look like:

Create one substantial story → publish it on your site → turn it into several distinct social pieces → use those pieces to funnel people back to the original story.

That’s generally a much cleaner content strategy than trying to make every posting link to every other posting.
