Each year around this time, I try to do a giveback service that benefits people in need in my community. In prior years, I ran a food drive. Why the Open Cupboard Food Pantry?
Food pantries work with the USDA and local and state food suppliers to meet the nutritional needs of residents who qualify for support based on income and other factors. The Open Cupboard Food Pantry of Clinton is by far the most organized and well-run food pantry in the area.
They experienced an unfortunate setback with a structure fire to their facility several years ago, including losing their beloved thrift shop which served as their primary source of funds for the pantry. But thanks to an abundance of community support, the food pantry has persevered through their struggles, and continues to serve their growing clientele of Hunterdon and Warren County, NJ residents in need.
Rising utility costs, an increase in rent at their new location and growing demand due to economic changes have impacted the food pantry, including its sister facility, the Washington Basket in Washington, New Jersey.
